One person was killed as thugs from APC and PDP clashed over the weekend at the Jakande area of Lagos.
A clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Jakande, Lekki area of Lagos left one person dead and several injured.
According to Punch, it is not clear what drew the ire the two supporters which occurred on Saturday, February 7.
While
some resident revealed that the clash happened because of the APC
supporters were mocking the PDP supporters over the low turnout of their
rally, other residents think that resident revealed that the fight
started after some people tried to stop members of the APC from
destroying billboards and posters belonging to the PDP.
According to eyewitness accounts, gunshots were fired indiscriminately as frightened people fled.
People abandoned their cars, motorcycles and everything they had while fleeing to safty to avoid being hit by a stray bullet.
One person was however not lucky enough as he was found dead after soldiers and police came to restore calm.
Some social media narrators revealed that the thugs were wielding AK-47.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State APC, Joe Igbokwe, told Punch that the clashes were caused by loyalists of the.
“We
have addressed the matter already and it has something to do with the
attitude of the PDP supporters tearing posters and using the police to
perpetrate other illegalities. An instance is what is happening at the
tollgate, where they have a group of people with police protecting
them,” Joe Ibokwe said
