The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has asked the newly appointed coordinators of development centres in the state to device measures to combat kidnapping and other forms of violent crimes in their areas.
Umahi, who said this during the inauguration of 64 coordinators of the development centres in Abakaliki, on Monday, said the appointees would be “in trouble” if cases of kidnapping were reported in their areas.
This was contained in a statement issued by Umahi’s Chief Press Secretary, Emma Anya, on Tuesday.
The Ebonyi State governor also ordered the coordinators to recover all stolen funds and properties in their development centres from politicians and from civil servants
Umahi also asked the coordinators to reach out to the defected members of the Peoples Democratic Party and bring them back to the party.
“If you allow kidnapping to take place in your development centre; either they abduct somebody from your development centre to another development centre, both development centre coordinators are in trouble. You have to do (something) because you ought to know the bad people in your areas.
“Efforts should be made to bring back all the defected members of the Peoples Democratic Party to their original family, which is the PDP,” the statement quoted Umahi as saying
Umahi also reaffirmed his commitment to ending corruption in the state and to fulfill his campaign promises.
The governor maintained that at least 20 per cent of the total earnings of the development centres must be dedicated to project execution, which should be jointly carried out with the caretaker committee chairmen of the local government areas in the state.
