So I received an email from a reader. She's married with two kids - 2 boys. She explained that her and her husband want another child, a girl to be precise. They cannot afford to have more than 3 kids but they really want a girl. They are considering sex selection, they are happy to do it but they don't want family or friends judging them. My reply - pray about it, pray, pray, pray! If they still feel strongly about it then do it! I know it sounds selfish but it really isn't. I want a girl next, I am praying about it, even some days after praying about it, I feel guilty, people are praying for healthy kids everyday and I am praying for the sex of my child. A couple of years ago, I was crying, praying, begging God for a healthy child and now I am praying for a girl! But you know what? I've learnt to pray to God for everything and anything, no matter how big or how little or even how silly it sounds - He said we should ask him. If I have a boy next then I have to accept it is God's life plan for us and His plan is always, always better than ours. I remember one day in Church in Abuja, I saw this lady with so many kids - 9! They can't be all be her kids I thought but I was wrong. When it was time to leave Church, her car pulled up and they all jumped in one by one. 8 girls and a little boy! She's a strong woman. I loveeee kids but will I have 7 boys and girl because I want a baby girl? NO!!! Will I have 5 boys and still try for another baby because I want a baby girl, mba now😩😩For me, it will be career suicide and financially irresponsible (quality education and childcare is expensive) especially in Geneva where you pay full time nannies about a million naira a month (N1,000,000) to look after your child, Monday - Friday for a maximum of 12 hours (as their employer you are also responsible for their taxes, health insurance and pension). I keep asking my mum how they did it, raising 8 kids 👏🏻👏🏻 she said they had lots of help from family - her sisters, cousins etc. in this day and age, which sister or cousin will leave their own career and plans to start a family to come take care of yours?😐😔 so would you consider sex selection?
